Here is the one secret you need to know to rank higher on Google

Find me on:

There is only one truly important thing you need to know to improve search results and rank higher in Google searches. Spoiler alert – the answer is to regularly publish valuable content. Yup. Regularly. Publish. Valuable. Content. That’s the show stopper. The main ingredient. The bee's knees.

Of course, I am over simplifying the magical skillset true SEO folks hang their hats on (and they are magical). But don't kid yourself. If you want to generate leads with your content, the time and energy spent learning the latest tricks so you can game the Google machine will be better spent simply regularly creating and publishing quality content. Yes, the very same quality content your readers are looking for.

Consistent Quality Content Ranks in Google

Think about it this way: What does Google do? Google is in the search business. Hell, Google is the search business. Google wants the search results you receive on any query to be the most accurate, helpful answers to whatever information you happen to be seeking. Now, if you want your business to be in contention for these coveted top search result spots, what better way can you think of than to regularly write and publish good, quality, and helpful content around the topics your customers are searching for?

The one secret to rank higher in Google

For example, if you Google “What’s the best place to get back to school supplies?” What do you think will populate those results? Bait and tackle shops? A bunch of unrelated businesses with deep backlink strategies and hidden keywords trying to play off the back to school traffic? Or do you think the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) will be full of advice revolving around back-to-school shopping and/or places to buy said supplies? If you guessed the latter you just may have Googled before.

If you want more traffic, and better results from your website, try this: focus more on regularly publishing good content and less on how to game the Google machine.

Now, once you have committed to upping your content game and you are regularly publishing scores of great information, you can begin to focus on page optimization elements, a linking strategy, keywords, and all the periphery. Yes, these can be effective and can help you drive results, but none of them will matter or do you any good unless you have focused on that good content, son. You know that old chestnut: “There is no substitute for hard work”? Well, it’s time to get to work.
